About MNT Gaiden
This story is a universe on its own, and doesn’t fit in any official TMNT storyline because of the events that take place in it, but will have similarities and references to them.
Most TMNT fans remember the green guys as pizza eating surfing young turtles, for the 80’s cartoon of TMNT was the most popular universe of TMNT. Actually, TMNT was originally a comic book in black and white which was geared towards teens. It is mostly on that universe that I’m loosely building that of MNT Gaiden.
I also use some elements from the Image universe of the TMNTs quite early in the story. For example, Shadow, Casey’s adoptive daughter, will have a major role in the story, or Raph’s little ‘eyeball problem’.
However, elements that I did not agree with for some characters in the Image comics are not considered, like Casey being a drunkard with serious issues.
His true identity is shrouded in mystery, as he claims to have been a human as well, contradicting the circumstances surrounding his appearance. While the older TMNT were named after Renaissance artist, Renoir is named after one from the nineteenth century to indicate the generation gap between him and the older turtles.
Renoir is used not only as a comic relief, but also as an witness to the conflicts between the older turtles. Originally self-centered and extremely reluctant to have anything to do with the older turtles, Renoir learns from the older turtles’ conflicts and changes for the better or for the worse.
